School-Based Grief Support Program
OUR HOUSE recognizes that many children and teens grieve alone. Parents or guardians may lack access to transportation needed to bring their child to a support group at our West Los Angeles or Woodland Hills locations. Through our landmark School Based Grief Support Program we bring our services to your local schools.
Elementary, middle, and high school students can participate, free of charge, in an OUR HOUSE on-site grief support group in their own school. The groups provide a safe place for children to share their thoughts and feelings with other children who are also grieving after the death of a family member or close friend. Students are identified by school personnel and are invited to participate. Upon the completion of the ten week group, children and faculty report that students are better able to concentrate in school and have improved social and behavioral performance

"I could cry in front of you guys without hearing 'what's wrong?'"
-Jasmine, aged 12
"Thank you for offering the services of OUR HOUSE to our students. They learned that they were not alone in what they were going through and were able to share their grief."
- Brad, High School Counselor
"Our House has a very effective, comprehensive group curriculum. They consistently brought age appropriate materials and projects for the students to work on. Students enjoyed the group so much that many asked to participate again the following semester. Most students reported that the group was the only place that they felt they could talk about their loss safely. Very frequently students reported an increase in their ability to concentrate in class and on exams because they were able to "clear their head" during the group meeting."
-Sandy, Psychiatric Social Worker
"I saw such a need for grief support and did not know where to turn. A lot of families do not have insurance, and therefore cannot afford any type of support services. Thank you OUR HOUSE for the outstanding support."
- Michael, Middle School Psychologist
"The grief support group helped our students to talk openly about their grief when they otherwise wouldn't."
- Matthew, Elementary School Group Leader
"The thing I liked most about the Grief Support Group was that it was very interactive and hands on with the students. It allowed the students to express themselves in many ways."
- Christine, Middle School Group Leader
