Last year was the most horrible year of my life. My mother died from complications following a heart attack and then five months later my beautiful sister died after brain surgery. I was in an absolute tailspin of grief. My sister left two sons behind and their well being was the only thing that kept me going... on sheer adrenalin. My faith and heart were truly broken. Each year, hundreds of OUR HOUSE group members, alumni, and supporters participate in the LA Marathon and walk or run one mile in memory of someone special in their lives who has died. We hope that you will join with us this year in one of these ways:

Walk in the Adult only IN MEMORY WALK

  • Wear a personalized OUR HOUSE T-shirt with a picture of your special person on the back
  • Get to know other adult group members, alumni, and supporters as we walk an early morning, gentle, slow-paced mile just off the course of the marathon
  • Join in a ceremony honoring the memory of the person who died

    • Participate in the RUN FOR HOPE (children and their parent or guardian)

  • Wear a personalized OUR HOUSE T-shirt with a picture of your special person on the back
  • Get to know other children/teens as you run/walk a mile along the course with the LA Marathon runners
  • Attend the OUR HOUSE Finish Line Party

    • If you will not be present at the run

  • Sponsor other group members/alumni in their run for hope
  • Make an in memory donation and have your person’s name listed on the Team OUR HOUSE t-shirt which will be worn by one of our volunteers who will walk/run in memory for you.

    A Day for Healing...A Run for Hope
    On Sunday, March 4, 2007, for the 13th consecutive year over 160 children and teens from our Grief Support Groups, our School Groups, and our Alumni participated in the LA Marathon on their Run for Hope. Go to the gallery »

    Each child honored the memory of their Mom, Dad, or significant person in their lives who died and proudly wore a photograph of that person on the back of their t-shirt.

    For the third year, 50 adult group members participated in an early morning In Memory Walk. Map and directions »

    It was an extremely heartfelt day! "What an amazing gift the day was for families to be able to publicly honor their loved ones and to be able to laugh and cry and feel life, while at the same time, remember the life that is now gone," said one participant. Read more stories »
